morning struggle
I'm not a morning person at all and if I have to be anywhere early 9 times out of 10 I either wont be on time or will show up with my hair not done ( only in an informal setting). I finally realized that I could maximize the time I spent in the shower by doing my hair as well. It made my mornings a lot smoother and I wasn't showing up to events or class with my hair all over the place. I usually condition my hair then comb through it and let the conditioner sit until I've finished brushing my teeth then get into the shower and rinse it all off. Since I'm wearing my hair curly now its working a lot better then when I was wearing my hair straight.
colors!
Hair coloring is, in my family, some what of a right of passage. Your not allowed to color your hair until you can afford, on your own, the upkeep and maintenance. So naturally I couldn't get my hair colored professionally until I had a steady job. Well, this past spring for my birthday I finally saved up enough money to get my hair colored and I decided to go all out! The idea was for my birthday I'd have pink and purple hair. My stylist (my cousin) explained to me before hand what the chemicals required to get my desired look will do to my hair asked me was I sure this was what I wanted to do then proceeded the long and rigorous process to bleach then color my hair. The whole process took about 4 hours but I was in love with the end results

different textures
There are so many different "grades" or textures to natural hair, distinguished by a letter and number system. And because there are so many textures there are also different care tips for each type.
The two I'm going to focus on for this blog are Type 4 is kinky hair and Type 3 is considered curly hair. The subsets in between the numbers are a lot more complicated. For instance my hair type is considered to be between 4a and 3c grade depending on if I have a color treatment in it. Some celebrities with 4a hair texture include model Yaya Decosta. While her curls are sort of loose yet voluminous the "S" pattern of her hair stays defined.

While closely related in hair texture would be Tracee Ellis Ross. The only real difference between the two women's curls is the size and volume.

curly q's
So recently, I've spoken with a lot of my friends who are either transitioning to or are already "naturalistas", as I like to refer to them. A lot of them had one big concern: how to keep their hair moisturized and if they wear their hair curly how to keep their curly texture throughout the day. I've played around with different hair care products to get my hair as light and yet moisturized as possible. One of my go-to products is "Shea Moisture: Curl Enhancing Smoothie". It makes my curls light and fluffy while enhancing them after my "co-wash" or deep condition. It's probably the lightest product I use on my hair besides a serum. It's also good for guys to use as a wave enhancer!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Hello!
I'm a 23 year old junior at Bowie State University. I've just recently begun my journey into the natural hair life. This blog will be about all things natural hair related: from my journey to different hair care products as well as different textures of natural hair I want to cover as much as I can and learn more along the way!
Hopefully the guys can learn a thing or two as well!
Lets get started!
